Position Description: Perform SQL Server database consolidations and migrations. Inventory existing set of SQL Server databases to identify candidates to be upgraded and moved from standalone SQL 2000 instances into consolidated SQL 2000 and SQL 2005 servers to provide floor space and power savings. Work with Business Units to schedule upgrade and consolidation activities. Perform SQL Server database migrations into existing enterprise servers and test to ensure problem-free installations. Strong Communication and coordination skills required.

1. Top 3-5 technical skills you are looking for.
- experienced as a MS SQL Server DBA / systems administrator - using SQL Server native capabilities and related tools (e.g. Ideral compliance/diagnost ic manager, backup/recovery tools, SQL profiler, etc).
- experience migrating from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005
- experienced performing database moves and consolidations for SQL Server databases
- good testing and debugging skills to ensure that the consolidated SQL Server databases are performing correctly
- good technical analytical skills to determine the viability of moving a particular stand-alone SQL Server database to a shared SQL Server instance.

2. Top 3-5 soft skills/personality traits you are looking for.
- excellent verbal communication, partnering and facilitation skills - will need to work with clients to inventory existing applications and coordinate movement of their database from one server to another.
- good time-management skills and ability to manage own work
- ability to work with multiple projects simultaneously

3. Top 3-5 daily responsibilities of this position
- create inventory of existing SQL Server instances to determine candidacy for migration to a consolidated server to reduce power draw at the data center
- create prioritized list of candidate servers to be moved/migrated (from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005)
- negotiate move dates with application owners
- perform database moves and migrations (includes deployment and validation)
- coordinate de-installation of original servers to reclaim power
- provide reports on status and results

4. Will resource be working in a team environment? If so, how many team members?
- yes - there are 3 other SQL Server DBAs that are familiar with the environment but will be performing other types of work
- I anticipate that there will be 2-5 SQL Server DBAs performing database moves as described in the responsibilities section

5. Where in the lifecycle is the project?
- Target SQL Server environment has been established. We are now ready to begin performing the inventory of existing stand-alone database that can be moved into the target environment.

6. What will define this project as ?successful? ?
- maximum power savings through consolidations and migrations
- would like to target a minimum of 200 SQL Server databases moved for 45 kw of power saved.
